The standard scale for a gauge is feet and inches.

Other scales are also available. Scales can be supplied in gallons, barrels, etc., however, these volumetric scales are usually non-linear and each size and style of tank is different. A one-time art charge is necessary for these and drawings or strapping tables must be furnished.

Artwork exists for a number of special scales. Some of the scales offered include:

• Large acrylic scale which is visible from a much greater distance. The scale and numbers are approximately twice the normal size.
• "Inches only" scale
• Metric scale in meters and centimeters.
• Decimal feet with 0.1 ft. divisions and with 0.01 divisions.
• Offset zero with plus and minus scale divisions (in feet and inches).
• 0 - 100% Scale.
