Acid Storage Tanks

Very corrosive acids such as Sulfuric, Hydrochloric, Hydrofluoric and Acetic have all successfully been handled by the magnetic level gauge.

Sulfuric (H2S04) at 95% plus concentration can be safely accommodated by 316 stainless. Hydrochloric (HCl) requires Hastelloy or Kynar.

Solid Kynar gauges are quite popular in corrosive service and only cost about 30% more than stainless (temperature limit is 280 deg. F). Monel is commonly used in HF Acid service typically found in refinery applications, but is expensive.

Teflon inserts or liners may also be used in acid service but only in gauges with top/bottom process connections (Style A). Liners tend to cost as much as Hastelloy or Kynar so are not quite as popular.

PVC/CPVC are low cost (about 30-40%) and quite acceptable but only in ambient/atmospheric tanks.
